This is where I'll review every book I read this year.

The 7 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton

7.5 deaths cover

Rating: 4.5/5

A great mystery novel that left me wondering who the killer was until the final few pages while still foreshadowing throughout the entire book. I particularly liked one of its major themes, seeing the good in every person even if they are objectively bad people. While I was very confused towards the end regarding who certain characters were I found this a pleasure to read.

Small Favor by Jim Butcher

Rating: 4/5

Overall a good addition to the Dresden files, while I dont think its anything to write home about I did enjoy myself the entire way through. The Gruffs are a very fun set of minor antagonists (they are literally the "billy goats gruff" from the old fairy tale. The Denarians returning is always a good time, and the final location for the big fight is one of the coolest areas in the entire series (although it doesnt get as interesting until the next book). I would say this is a great time but overall a fairly easy to skip entry.

Turn Coat by Jim Butcher

Rating: 4.5/5

I absolutely loved this book, one of the first books in the series to focus on the actual main villains of the series. Reading this you can see why, the power difference between Harry and [REDACTED] is so strong I was guessing how a satisfying ending could even happen. But it did, the ending is absolutely incredible and you can feel the changes this series is taking in this book. Relationships change, a recurring character dies, and at the end it leaves you wondering what the next steps in the series will be. I do need to say that I found certain parts in the first third of the book to just be ok, but very quickly it ramps up into my favorite book in the series so far.

Ghost Story by Peter Straub

Rating: 5/5

For a 5/5 rating I have to admit, I did not like the first quarter of this book. But now having finished this I completely understand why it was written like this. The town of Milburn seems so real (it was based on a real place but you know what I mean). This book also goes into topics that are far darker than I wouldve expected, it explores those topics in a very real way. This book is definitely not for everyone though, if you can make it through the Gregory Bates story you will probably fall in love with this book just as I did.
